Public Lands

There's a lot of public land in California, Oregon and Washington and the majority of it holds Blacktail deer. Every year big bucks are taken from BLM land, National Forests and wilderness areas. If you do your homework and hunt hard, you just might get lucky and kill a monster.

California Public Land Areas

Cache Creek Wilderness Area. This secluded, hilly expanse of oak woodlands, grasslands, and chaparral is a combination of over 70,000 acres of BLM managed lands and 4,700 acres of State and County lands. http://www.ca.blm.gov/ukiah/cachecreek.html

Payne Ranch. Approximately 12,806 acres located in A-zone. The Payne Ranch is adjacent to the Cache Creek Wilderness and together the two areas host a large tule elk herd and the second largest wintering bald eagle population in California. Marble Mountain Wilderness.. Located in Zone B-6, The Marble Mountain Wilderness covers over 225,000 acres. The area varies in elevation from 600 to over 8,000 feet at the highest peaks. Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness Area is located in Zone B-5 and consists of 100,000 acres of prime Columbian Blacktail habitat. If you like to walk or use horses this is the place for you. No vehicles are allowed in Wilderness Areas. Maps for this area and surrounding National Forest lands are available at the Mendocino National Forest Headquarters, Willows CA. Trinity Alps Wilderness. Located in Zone B-2, The Trinity Alps Wilderness lies within the Shasta-Trinity, Klamath and Six Rivers national forests and consists of 500,000 acres of diverse terrain. With elevations ranging to 9,000 there is something here for everyone. Siskiyou Wilderness. Located in Zone B-1, The Siskiyou Wilderness encompasses more than 150,000 acres. Because of its remoteness the area receives fairly light hunting pressure.
