Welcome
to the MCBA website.
Mendocino County is located in North Western
California and encompasses 4,000 square miles of prime Blacktail Deer habitat.
Established in 2005. The goals of our organization stem from the alarming decline
of the Columbian Blacktail Deer in the public lands of Mendocino County. With
our current scientific projects, we wish to bring a much needed balance to the
eco systems, and involve ourselves in the management of all wildlife in our forests.
With
a human population of only 85,000 there are still abundant Blacktail hunting opportunities
available in our area. Because
of this, deer hunting is one of the most popular outdoor pursuits in the region.
Hunters in search of trophy class Columbian Blacktails travel from all over the
country to hunt Mendocino's vast expanses of public and private lands.
The MCBA's goal is to utilize our ever increasing membership by working in conjunction
with the California
Department of Fish & Game. Our projects will include habitat restoration, balancing
predation and utilizing fire to remove decadent brush, which provide no nutritional
value to the wildlife. We will also strive for a continuing census of all wildlife
species. Over
the years there has been little public involvement in the management of Mendocino
County's Columbian Blacktail population. For effective management, the California
Department of Fish and Game needs informed public involvement to assist in the
caring for, and the management of, the multiple uses of our National Forest lands.
It is the responsibility of every sportsman, and citizen of Mendocino County who
use these lands to participate in the management and preservation of them. For
far too long we have done little but take from the area's Columbia Blacktail population.
Caring for,
managing, and enjoying the multiple uses of our wildlife, is the responsibility
of every sportsman, and citizen of our county. The Columbian Blacktail deer have
need of our assistance, and help, the MCBA is now your opportunity to give a little
extra back to the deer we all respect and admire.
